5 REASONS WE LOVE GALE HAROLD

“Gale roots every word and act in truth, so even the most diabolical deeds become relatable,” says executive producer Andrew Miller. “And he makes it all seem sexy.”

He’s hot, homicidal and so easy to love to hate. As the alpha-male antagonist of The Secret Circle, Gale Harold has conjured up quite the fan base. But as bewitching as his Charles Meade is, it’s Georgia native Harold himself who really has us under his spell. – Damian Holbrook

1. He’s not afraid of a challenge. Having first raised eyebrows (and dropped trou) as man whore Brian Kinney on the U.S. version of Queer as Folk, Harold knows Charles’s treatment of Cassie makes Meade a tough sell. But that won’t stop him from trying “to make Charles acceptable so people say ‘He’s done this and that, but I feel for him.’”

2. He has high praise for his young costars. The former mechanic has “come to appreciate how lucky” Britt Robertson and other teen witches are to have started their careers early. “They have an amazing amount of energy, stay focused… and they don’t get so overwrought as I sometimes do.”

3. He likes being bad. “Those are always seductive roles because it’s the bait and switch,” he says. “You put something horrible in front of someone and figure out a way for them to like it.”

4. But he’s not as malevolent as his characters. “I think I’m perceived as antisocial or unfriendly,” he says, chalking up public misperceptions to “a very nonlinear sense of humor I think some people read as cantankerous or bored.”

5. In fact, he is actually very funny! So how come no one has cooked up a comedy for him? “I think that is a question a lot of powerful people need to ask themselves… and then start sending me scripts!”
