this is referring to my other coemmnt, now they also have purex, arctic power, tide and many other brands that are designed to work in coldwater. usually regular detergent will get the job done in cold water too. a good way to not use hot water is to turn off the hot faucet and get a splitter tap for the cold hookup and hook both of the inlet faucets that run to the washer into the splitter. i like to save energy as much as i can but i do not recommend any HE Washers as they are junk.
